2600 Fort Worth Avenue 2530 Fort Worth Avenue 2600 Bahama Drive Dallas, TX 75211 Description This project represents the redevelopment of site formerly occupied by The Bronco Bowl, a Dallas entertainment landmark since 1961, located at the intersection of Fort Worth Avenue and Bahama Drive in North Oak Cliff. As the entertainment center had eclipsed its useful life, the former Bronco Bowl has been razed to make way for 220,000 square feet retail complex, anchored by a Home Depot home improvement center. In addition, the project has 3 retail pad sites fronting on Fort Worth Avenue (one now contains a Walgreens store and another is under planned development of a free-standing Chase Bank branch) and as well as a 66,000 square foot "big-box" retail shopping center on Bahama Drive. All buildings within the project will be architecturally compatible and designed to conform to what is being termed "Revisited Texas Prairie Style". This architectural style is intended to evoke a design sensibility and execution that incorporates the practical aspects of early Dallas/Fort Worth area building design solutions, including: durable materials, shading devices (awnings, porches, trellises, and screens), broad roofs and overhangs, decorative roof parapets, columns, and stone or brick projections. It is also the design intent to include the style, materials, and methods of "Mexican Colonial Exterior" tile cladding, as incidental accent features and/or design elements that will include pavers, terra cotta tiles, and glazed and talavera tiles. Significance The project is in keeping with the neighborhood revitalization efforts and plans for a rejuvenated Fort Worth Avenue, through this section of north Oak Cliff. The Fort Worth Avenue Development Group, a private non-private neighborhood advocacy group, has been instrumental in preparing land use and urban design plans for entire length of Fort Worth Avenue. The project, with over 220,000 square feet of retail space, will represent, by far, the largest retail concentration in the area as well as one of the largest private investments in recent history. The project will bring to the area many job opportunities as well as a different retail mix than is currently available in the immediate vicinity.
